Saturday at Left Field in Oakland, a chili cookoff will be taking place. At 5 p.m., chili, cinnamon rolls, and hot dogs will be served for children.

Nine local chefs will be going up against each other trying to earn themselves the award of best chili.

The event is $10 for adults, while children admission is $5.

Yard games will take place, as well as the Husker football game and volleyball games being shown.

If anyone is unable to attend, there is a way to make a donation to the FOOF Scholarship Program through Sue Beckner.

With regards to the FOOF and Scholarship Program, the Friends of Oakland Foundation serves the board community by evaluating and addressing community issues, promoting charitable giving, and connecting donors to the critical needs of the community.

FOOF was chartered in 1987, they strive to help public-spirited citizens find ways to achieve their charitable goals and make Oakland a better place to live now and for many years to come.

Their annual fundraiser benefits the friends of the FOOF program, with all money being raised from the event to go towards the Dollars for Scholars initiative in which they award thousands of dollars in scholarships to Oakland-Craig seniors every year.

In 2026, FOOF awarded $29,000 in scholarships to 14 members of the Oakland-Craig senior class. Proceeds from the annual fundraiser as well as individual charitable gifts make this scholarship fund possible.

Thank you to our generous business and individual sponsors who make this event possible.
