Oakland-Craig junior Trypp Johnston, a member of West Point’s Eagle Scout troop, built a tunnel and ramp for the Neligh Dog Park. A plaque was installed at the dog park this summer along with his tunnel and ramp for the community to enjoy.
The project was a requirement for Johnston after he applied to be an Eagle Scout candidate. Each applicant must build something that benefits their community to earn Eagle Scout status.
His original idea was to build something for the baseball field, but after hearing the city planned to section off an area for a dog park, Johnston decided to build a new piece of equipment for the dogs. He installed the equipment and sign, and the city will take care of maintenance.
As a requirement of the project completion process, Johnston tracked every aspect of building the equipment including costs of supplies, mileage, build time and more. After nearly 200 hours of work, his project was installed in late August.
Now that his project is finished, he is finishing paperwork and preparing for a review. Johnston said while the project was frustrating at times, he’s thankful to be working his way through the Eagle Scout admission process and to have had friends and family help him along the way.
