Friday, Harvest Moon in Oakland officially opened and will be open to the public until Saturday, Oct. 31.
“We are really excited to get it open,” said owner of Harvest Moon Terry Wallerstedt. “When you see how excited the kids are, we just had two little kids come running in, and hugged me because it’s opened. It’s always fun to get it started.”
Admission at Harvest Moon for kids 2 and under is free. General admission is $14, Military with ID is $11, Seniors is $9, while a season pass (individual) is $30, and the private fire pit is $50.
There are many fun activities around the site that include an extra large corn pit, a jumping pad and pillow, rail rollers, zip lines, a corn maze, pedal go-karts, adult monster trikes, carnival strikers, barn slides, ghost creek trikes, a tractor trails playground, along with food and drinks. One new addition to the site is a mega-slide that is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The park will be closed on Mondays, but open every other day of the week.
“This is year 20,” Wallerstedt said. “When we started out, we were open one weekend, and just had a barn dance. We also had go-karts and a trike track. That was basically it, and people still came which is crazy. It’s grown a lot since then.”
With all the attractions available, Wallerstedt talked about what kids gravitate towards the most.
“I’d say it’s between the corn pit, the jumping pillows, go karts, and now this year it’ll be the slide,” she said.
Wallerstedt also mentioned from last year to this year, some new additions that got added.
“The big mega slide is the big one,” she added. “Towards the back, we have a train ride on the weekends. There used to be a big storage unit back there where we keep go-karts during the winter. It was an eye sore. This year, we’ve built a facade in front of it, which is an old west town that we named Deadwood. When they come out of the grove on the train, they’ll get to see Deadwood, and I think that’s going to be really fun for this year.”
Pumpkins will also be available for purchase at the front of the site, along with a petting zoo close to it that has llamas and goats.
