Bethel #56 of Job’s Daughters International in Tekamah hosted a Tea Party for women of Masonic Organizations on Saturday, September 12th. The members were so pleased to have a special guest in their midst for the tea.
Ethel T Wead Mick (portrayed by Emily Schoenleber of Lincoln) reminisced on the reasons she formed The Order of Job’s Daughters in 1920 in Omaha, NE. She highlighted an event of the era that resulted in a huge step for women. This event was the right to vote. She desired to have an organization for young women that would practice this ability to vote. Mother Mick wanted to instill into members respect for the country’s flag and respect for others.
Mother Mick enjoyed tea and treats with members of Bethel #56 and their guests. Those attending from the Order of the Eastern Star were Margaret Nelson of Blair, Bev Landholm of Oakland. Council members present were Alisa Uhing, Shirley Devasure, and Melanie Johanson.
After 100 years, this organization is still in existence. It continues to promote the ideals Mother Mick had hoped for: democracy, respect for our flag, respect for others, and reverence for God. If you know of a young lady who might be interested in broadening her horizons please check out the international website (www.jobsdaughtersinternational.org) or our state website (www.nejd.org).
